Homemade Cranberry-Orange Dressing
Recipe courtesy of Nick Ritchie, Signature Kitchen Suite
Servings: Makes 2 ½ cups
Ingredients
1 cup sugar
¾ cup water
1 vanilla bean, split length wise (½ tsp vanilla extract can be used as a substitute)
1 orange, zested and juiced
1 (12-ounce) bag fresh or frozen cranberries
Pinch of salt
Pinch of fresh ground black pepper
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
Method
Start by making the simple syrup. Dissolve the sugar in the water in a small saucepan. Add vanilla bean or extract and bring to a simmer over a medium-high heat. Add the orange juice, zest and cranberries, a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Simmer gently until cranberries begin to pop and become tender, about 5-6 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in Dijon mustard. Chill cranberry sauce until ready to serve. The sauce can be made up to 5 days ahead of time and makes a great addition to a “day after” turkey sandwich.
